We are excited to announce multiple new events:

• Register for the new AI CoE webinar “Generative Therapeutics Design: Accelerating Drug Discovery with AI and Machine Learning” scheduled for October 19, 4 PM BST (11 AM EDT / 8 AM PDT). The application of AI and ML methods in drug discovery are maturing and their utility and impact are likely to permeate many aspects of drug discovery. Numerous methods, however, utilize structure-activity relationship (SAR) data without explicit use of 3D structural information of the ligand protein complex. Gilead is using BIOVIA’s Generative Therapeutics Design solution (GTD) to take advantage of 3D structural models, i.e. pharmacophoric representation of ligand protein interaction as well as typical docking/scoring steps. Using Gilead’s SAR data set pertaining to the discovery of spleen tyrosine kinase (SYK) inhibitors Entospletinib and Lanraplenib they found that common types of problems in medicinal chemistry can be effectively addressed with Generative Therapeutics Design.
• Register for the new webinar “Improving Efficiency in Life Sciences R&D: AI/ML in R&D Automation”, October 12, 5 PM BST (Noon EST / 9 AM PST). Learn how innovative science and technology are disrupting and transforming the way R&D is being conducted in a number of forward-thinking life science organizations.
• Register for the Pangea Data, a Pistoia Alliance member company, webinar “Characterizing patients in a privacy-preserving and scalable manner” on September 29, 2022, 5 PM BST (Noon EST / 9 AM PST). This event will cover applications of Natural Language Processing (NLP) and Natural Language Generation (NLG) to the processing of clinical information and regulatory reporting.
• View the recording of the AI CoE webinar “Trustworthy AI” that ran live on August 3^rd Our speakers, Navdeep Gill (H2O.ai) and Chas Nelson (gliff.ai) talked about various components that contribute to responsible and trustworthy AI, the new ANSI standard "ANSI/CTA 2090 Use of Artificial Intelligence in Health Care: Trustworthiness", and the ways to implement trustworthy and responsible AI in practice covering the whole AI lifecycle.
• The Pistoia Alliance Good Machine Learning Practices (GMLP) working group of the AI CoE will present in the workshop on the best practices in Machine Learning at the 21^st European Conference on Computational Biology on September 12. Our session starts at 1:30 pm CEST (7:30 am US EST) and may be attended virtually.
• The GMLP working group is also looking for additional members to help author the remaining sections of the best practices guide. Interested parties please contact Vladimir Makarov.
• We are actively looking for speakers for the Pistoia Alliance Collaborate to Innovate Conference in Boston, Massachusetts, on November 2^nd Our event is called the Emerging Science & Technology Breakout and starts at 2 pm EST that day. We plan for up to three short talks (15 to 20 minutes each) followed by a panel Q&A. The conference organizers are particularly interested in speakers able to attend in person. Ideal topics would be use cases in AI/ML-driven drug discovery. Interested parties please contact Vladimir Makarov.
• Have a look at these sites and recent publications:
  • The structural coverage of the human proteome before and after AlphaFold. At this time, about 31% of proteins in the human proteome have either experimentally-derived 3D structures or are close enough in sequence (over 50% residue identity) to other proteins with the known 3D structures to claim that their structures are similar by homology. AlphaFold provides high-confidence models for 19% more proteins of the human proteome, to the grand total of about 50% of proteins whose 3D structure is either known or can be reliably modeled.
